David Cook & Gavin DeGraw w/ Carolina Liar Penn State University State College, PA October 9th, 2011 Concert Review: Let me just start off by saying I cried when I thought I wouldn’t be able to make this tour. It had been so long seen David did an official tour and all that I would have given anything at that point to be able to go. I found out that I could go to this show on one of the worst night ever ironically enough. So this show as I see it was just meant to be for me. We got to Penn State around 11am and checked into our Hotel. Then between hanging out at the hotel and not finding a place to park we ended up in the back of the Rec Hall (where the concert was taking place). Just by luck a tour bus starts pulling into the back lot and my mom goes “That’s David’s bus”. You know, just joking with me. That is until Monty sticks his head out and yells “Yo!” to one of the mangers. So by one thing or another Andy, Devin, and Monty walk out and my parents ask for the photo. I even told them I was a bit nervous and they were super cool about taking the photo. I was happy to finally get my photo w/ Monty. We then got in line for the show sometime after 12. There were only a few of us there, but it was a lot of fun to talk to the other fans. We got into the venue a little before 7. It was a super odd place to have a show, but I guess anywhere will work. I was a little sad only students could sit on the floor, but our view ended up being great. Pictures came out shitty, because of our stupid camera, but the lighting was also not the greatest. The dance competition started a little after 7 and things were set. We left during a part of it to get merch, but ended up watching most of it. Me, being a dancer didn’t mind it. I actually love watching other fellow dancers! Carolina Liar came out around 8:30 and at first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like them, but as the set went on I was impressed! I ended up knowing some of their songs which was cool and overall I wouldn’t mind at all seeing them again. David time! David came out ready to rock I must say. I could tell he was missing the tour process. The setlist was amazing. I got every song I wanted (other then REM) to hear! My favorites of the night were Hard To Believe; which made me almost start crying, Goodbye to the Girl; which is honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve ever heard live and made me cry, and last but not least Fade Into Me; that made me sob for whatever reason. Of course though the highlight of the night was David ripping his pants! I think everyone has heard enough about this unforgettably funny event. Ahhh. I loved it. David’s banter was really great during the whole set and let me tell you he looked great. For Gavin we moved up the back which ended up being a bad idea. The sound was more distorted, but I have to say Gavin is amazing. His voice is unbelievable and I would love to see him again. I truly have to say David never brings anyone bad out on tour w/ him. The only way to explain this night was surreal. It was the most surreal and amazing day of my life. |
